Ton and Annet Ross from Hoorn have been a dedicated couple for sixty years. Their love story began in June 1964 at Ruteck's Restaurant on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. Annet was there with her friend, and Ton was accompanied by two friends. After exchanging glances on the first night, they decided to sit together on the second evening. This initial friendship blossomed into two marriages: Ton and Annet's, and their friends'.
Burgemeester Nieuwenburg visited the Ross couple to extend his congratulations on their enduring bond.
Despite the housing shortage in Amsterdam at that time, Ton, Annet, and their two young daughters moved to Westfriesland. Ton was not only a football player but also a referee at the KNVB, a role he has held for his entire life. His dedication to the KNVB and football earned him a royal honor. To this day, Ton remains actively involved as a referee for KNVB, officiating indoor football matches.
Annet balanced her job with extensive volunteer work, contributing to organizations like the Zonnebloem, the replica of the Halve Maan, and the Westfries Museum until its recent closure for renovations.
After numerous relocations, life's ups and downs, raising four daughters, welcoming twelve grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, Ton and Annet celebrated their diamond 60th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, February 25. Their enduring love story continues to inspire those around them.
