HOORN / BLOKKER - Two local home bakers, Beer Gül from Blokker and Frank Eggerding from Hoorn, have been crowned the crème de la crème of the Dutch apple pie bakery. On February 21, they will compete in Utrecht, along with thirteen other finalists, for the coveted title 'Best Apple Pie in the Netherlands'.
Their delicious masterpieces captured the hearts of an expert jury, including Rutger van den Broek, the very first winner of Heel Holland Bakt. The competition, organized by apple brand KANZI in celebration of their twentieth anniversary, is the perfect opportunity for home bakers to shine in the sweet center of the Netherlands.
During the preliminary round, the professional jury judged the apple pies on taste, originality, and presentation. Participants showcased their unique interpretations of the famous dessert, with surprising flavor combinations brought forward. The jury was particularly impressed by the quality of the entries: 'The apple pies were not only visually appealing but also surprising in taste,' said jury member Van den Broek.
The fifteen finalists will have another chance to present their apple pie creations, after which the jury will make the final evaluation and announce the winner. The top baker will receive a private workshop with jury member Rutger van den Broek, and the winning recipe will be featured on the KANZI website. Second and third place winners will receive a voucher for baking supplies.
